Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur Pooram known as the festival of festivals, Thrissur Pooram has an inheritance of more than 200 years. Sakthan Thampuran started this magnificent event with the former king of Kochi

This festival is celebrated on the “pooram” nakshatra of the Malayalam month “Medam”. pooram is the annual festival of temples located in central Kerala in which they carry ‘Thidamp” which represent the deity on the decorated elephant.

Kudamattam

Ilanjithara Melam:
Thrissur pooram is a festival of musical excellence too. There is an assembly of musical experts and artists to conduct a concert with traditional musical instruments. held under the ‘Ilanji’ tree at the courtyard of the Vadakkunnathan Temple. There will be a crowd around the display who dance with the rhythm of the music.

The Fireworks Display:
As said earlier pooram is also a festival of fireworks. Many people from far places come here to witness this spectacular event. There will two forms of fireworks namely ‘amittu’ which create colorful designs in the sky with less sound while the other is ‘dynamite’ which has a higher magnitude of sound. Actually, fireworks are an inevitable part of pooram festival in temples. In Thrissur pooram, there are fireworks known as ‘sample’ day before the pooram and one on the evening of the pooram day and also one more in the next morning of the pooram day.

Poora Pandals:
Illuminated ‘Pandals’ are created as part of pooram celebrations. ‘Pandals’ are creations of designs made at an elevation of 50 feet or more with bamboo wood and arecanut tree wood placed at the main centers of Pooram festival ground. People come at night to see the pandals and fireworks.

The Trichur Pooram Exhibition

The Trichur Pooram Exhibition is one of the best trade fares in India. There will be different stalls of govt.departments, handicrafts, fancy items, clothes, home appliances etc. The Exhibition which starts a month before and continues some more days after pooram. The revenue generated will be used to meet the expenses incurred for organizing this magnificent event.

Thrissur Pooram is a feast to eyes, ears and mind. Numerous tourists from the world gather here every year to witness this spectacular event. Every people irrespective of region, religion, and caste unite here to make this event a grand success.
Anybody can reach here without difficulty as the transportation facility of road and rail is readily available.
